Andres Uibo, born in Kivi-Vigala, graduated in Piano (1976) at the Tallinn Georg Ots Music School under the guidance of Leelo Kõlar and Ülev Saare and in Music Pedagogy and in Organ (1981) at the Tallinn National Conservatory under Hugo Lepnurm. He also studied Choir Conducting with Lembit Verlin.
In 1988-1991, he took part in masterclasses held by Leo Krämer, Ton Koopman, Hans Haselböck, José Luis Gonzales Uriol and Luigi Celeghini. Thanks to a scholarship from the city of Lübeck, Andres Uibo studied at the Lübeck Musikhochschule (Academy of Music) with Hans Gebhard from 1992 to 1994.
Since 1981, Andres Uibo is organist of the St. Nicholas Church in Tallinn and, since 1996, he is the manager and producer of the State Concert Institute Eesti Kontsert.
In 1994, Uibo started to work as organ teacher at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. He has been jury member at several national and international competitions.
He initiated and he is artistic director of the annual Tallinn Organ Festival (1987), the Suure-Jaani Music Festival (dedicated to the Kapp family of composers) (1998) and the Tallinn BachFest (2012). As the artistic director of the Tallinn Organ Festival, he has commissioned new works from several Estonian composers for the Festival's program.
Andres Uibo is board member of the Estonian Music Council since 1996 and the vice-chairman of the Estonian Organ Society since 1999.
In 2001-2004, he was the chairman of the Artur Kapp International Society.
Thanks to his committment, several organs in Tallinn have been restored.
Andres Uibo has proofread and edited the complete organ works by Artur Kapp, then published by Eres. He is also the author of the book "Historical Organs in Estonia" (Eres, 1994).
Since 1981, Andres Uibo has given more than 2000 recitals and concerts with different soloists and ensembles almost in all European countries, Russia, Japan and Israel. He has cooperated with various Estonian musicians. His repertoire is diverse and wide-ranging. He is an active performer of Estonian organ music by Peeter Süda, Rudolf Tobias, Edgar Arro and Erkki-Sven Tüür, in many cases being the first performer of their works.
Andres Uibo has made 33 recordings, including 12 solo-CDs and several CDs with different musicians, like the trumpet player Jüri Leiten (1994, 2003 and 2007), the guitarist Heiki Mätlik (2005 and 2007) and the guitarist Ain Varts (1999 and 2003). In 2006, a CD titled "Apocalypsis Symphony", where Andres Uibo performs his organ works at the great organ of Riga Cathedral, was released by Eres. His compositions are published by Eres.
Andres Uibo is Member of the Estonian Composers Union since 2006. His works have been performed in many important venues, among which: Moscow International House of Music, the Great Hall of St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonic Society, Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, Milano Cathedral, Monaco Cathedral, Antwerp Cathedral, Jerusalem Concert Hall, Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center, Haifa University Concert Hall, etc.
Andres Uibo has been awarded the annual prize of the Estonian National Culture Foundation (1990), the annual prize of the Endowment for Music of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia (1995 and 1999), the Valgetähe Teenetemärk ("Order of the White Star") (2001), the annual prize of the Estonian Music Council (2006) and the title of Honorary Citizen of Suure-Jaani Parish (2010), City of Tallinn (2016) and Vigala Parish (2011).
