Robert S. Potterton III was born in Manchester (Connecticut) into a musical family and grew up in Coventry (Connecticut).
Since 2015, he has been Organist & Choirmaster at historic Christ Church (Episcopal) in Fitchburg (Massachusetts), formerly serving seven years at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Dedham (Massachusetts).
In 2005, he was certified in Service Playing by the American Guild of Organists.
In 2008, he obtained the BMus (Bachelor of Music) in Composition & Organ Performance from Houghton College (New York).
In 2011, he earned the MSM (Master of Sacred Music) in Organ Performance from Boston University.
In 2013, he earned the STM (Master of Sacred Theology) in Worship from the same University.
From 2007 to 2012, he was the Dean of the Northeastern Connecticut Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
Since 2018, he is Member-at-Large and Webmaster for the Worcester Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
He has completed additional studies through the STEP (Satellite Theological Education Program) of the University of Notre Dame (Indiana), the HCHC (Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology), and the Harvard Divinity School.
He is a member of the ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers), The Society of St. Ambrose (Lutheran hymnwriters), and the OSL (Order of Saint Luke).
A classically-trained keyboardist and composer with skills in transcription/orchestration and arranging, he also has considerable experience with popular styles and frequently blends genres in his work.
In addition to work for the church and concert hall, he has scored over twenty short and feature films with numerous repeat collaborators.
He currently resides in Spencer (Massachusetts).
